Dare Humanity Water Run/Walk 2020
Time & Location
About the Event
Although 2020 has been a challenging year for many, with your support and generosity we have managed to accomplish wonderful things.
With the kind support of people like you, we have been able to adapt to the challenges this year has presented and provide support to meet the needs of the communities we serve.
We are still committed to meeting the goals of our 2020 vision and are making great progress.
We have expanded the Young Dreams Sponsorship program. Dare Humanity currently has 12 students enrolled in the Young Dream Sponsorship Program. We hired two teachers this year which has enabled youth to continue their education while schools have been closed through the COVID-19 pandemic. We are in the final stages of selecting the final 15 additional students and we are hopeful that our students can return to school in Haiti in the near future.
Along with the development of new programs, we are determined to meet our goal of working with community members in Sonyen and Deluge to install clean drinking water infrastructures.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that only 62% of Haitians have access to “improved water” sources. Only 48% of Haiti’s rural population has access to such sources of water.
3,200 of our community members in Haiti do not have access to clean water. This is a major health concern and threat to the health of our communities because of exposure to waterborne illnesses such as cholera, which claimed more than eight thousand lives in 2010.
Maintaining sound hand hygiene has been central in decreasing the spread of COVID-19 and so access to clean water and sanitation facilities is increasingly important to keeping the communities we work with safe and healthy.
Starting September 14th, Dare Humanity will be hosting a virtual Water Run/Walk event to establish the clean water initiative and ensure that Dare Humanity is able to continue supporting our communities in Haiti for years to come.
The Water Run/Walk welcomes participants to challenge themselves this fall by pledging to run or walk a distance of your choice and make a donation between September 14th and October 1st.
Members of the communities we work with in rural Haiti (Sonyen and Deluge) walk around 45 minutes every day to collect water and are mostly dependent on natural sources like creeks and springs for their water needs.
Perhaps you can pledge to walk or run 5 km or 10,000 steps a day. You can make the Water Walk/Run as challenging as you like - set a goal that works for you!
Our goal is to raise $7,500! We believe that with your support, we can reach our goal!
Invite your work colleagues, friends, family and neighbors to join you in the challenge and work together to meet your individual goals.
We believe that together, we can create opportunities for self-sufficiency for the communities we serve.
Join us for the Water Walk/Run this fall to kick start our clean water initiatives in rural Haiti.
